Dampier-Hodges Line is an imaginary line passing through South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts. The line indicates the eco-region of Sundarbans in India.
Total Area of Sundarban Eco-region : 9,630 Sq KM.
Area of Reserve forest : 4,267 Sq KM. ( Mangrove)
Inhabited areas : 5,363 Sq KM
Area of Wetlands : 1,920 Sq KM.(Rivers, Creeks, Canals)
Tiger project area : 2,585 Sq KM.
Total No. of Islands : 102
Inhabited Islands : 54
Islands covered with Mangroves : 48
No. of Rivers : 31
Length of River embankments : 4,250 KM.
Agricultural Lands : 30,0382 Acres
Development Blocks : 19 (13 in south 24 parganas and 6 in north 24 parganas)
